A room to enter. A room to exit. A space abandoned. An entry point into a distant past or not too distant future. A view into another world. A place belonging to the past while existing in the present. A relic. The space was empty. Quiet- silenced through time and a longing for sound. In solitude, she left.

The spaces we occupy and traverse can offer moments of respite and solitude in the midst of the chaos of our daily lives. Within the sphere of representational painting, my work is heavily concerned with the translation of memory and investigation of past through imagery.

Driven by a desire to record and translate my own experience of place and urban living, Views to a room explores the depiction of past and its preservation through painting.

Utilizing techniques of scale, cropping, zooming in and zooming out, the works are informed by photographs taken in moments of travel and wait. Be it a detail of a mosaic or else a scene from an aeroplane window, the works look to relay a narrative on the isolation of contemporary living, in turn offering a momentary withdrawal from the fast and constant world of today.
