Melbourne based artist Kate Wallace seeks to observe, capture and translate aspects of contemporary living through the means of painting. Observing how we relate and engage with everyday sites, Wallace looks at the ways painting can be used to construct an image or memory of place and time.
Utilizing techniques of scale, cropping, zooming in and zooming out, my paintings are informed by photographs taken in moments of travel and wait. Be it a detail of a mosaic or else a scene of an anonymous foyer, the works are intimate recollections of the everyday, drawing on memory and our relationship to the familiar.
Kate has shown work in Victoria and overseas and recently completed a Master of Contemporary Art at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne.
